About Us

1. ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The title of the symposium is "The 11th International Symposium of Wood Research Society (IWORS) in conjunction with the 2nd International Symposium on Tropical Forestry and Environmental Sciences (ISTFES 2019)".

CIFOR reported that Indonesia comprises the world’s third-largest area of tropical forest where more than 48 million people dependent on forests for their livelihoods. This area is also a home for 12% of world’s animal, 25% of the world’s fish, 16% of the world’s reptiles and amphibians, and more than 38,000 plant species and 565 species of non-timber forest products used for household purposes or for sale.

Issues of forest management system, biodiversity conservation, forest fire, illegal logging, climate change, community empowerment, and conflict resolution have been great interest until today. Furthermore, more efficient timber processing system, diversification and quality improvement of timber and timber-derived products, technology for plantation forest timber, and potential of added-value non-timber products (NTFPs) utilization are required in the frame of sustainable and cleaner production of forest resources.

The aim of the conference is to bring together scholars, students and administrators from different countries, and to discuss theoretical and practical issues in the fields of green innovation of forest and forest products and environment toward sustainable livelihood. The event will generate an atmosphere where the participants can share their expertise, experience, and resources with others.

The theme of the symposium is “Green Innovation on Tropical Forest and Forest Industries Toward Sustainable Livelihood”. The following scientific topics will be incorporated, but not limited into:

    • Forest products (including wood properties, wood preservation, wood chemistry, non-timber forest products, pulp and paper, wood composite, etc.);
    • Biomass conversion;
    • New and Renewable Energy;
    • Sustainable forest management;
    • Silviculture;
    • Social forestry;
    • Forest conservation;
    • Wildlife ecology;
    • Climate change;
    • General aspects of forestry and environmental sciences
