Abstract

Dracon (Dracontomelon dao) belongs to the Anacardiaceae Family, including the tree level. Dracon bark has been used by rural communities as traditional medicine at the time of childbirth, efficacious as a drug for dysentery, antibacterial, antifungal, and as a coloring agent. Therefore it is deemed necessary to validate scientifically the D.dao plant to support its use. The purpose of this study was to determine the bioactive compounds, antioxidant potential, and anti-bacterial activity of D.dao bark. The research was conducted including tests of phytochemical, toxicity, free-radical scavenging activity, and anti-bacterial test. The results showed that flavonoids, tannins, triterpenoids, carbohydrates and carotenoids were contained in D.dao bark ethanol extract. The total flavonoids was valued of 71.42 mg CE / g extract. Dracon bark extract at a concentration of 100 ppm tend to toxic, giving a relative inhibition of DPPH free radicals around 84% and inhibiting the growth of P.acnes bacteria about 35% comparing to the Vitamin C.
