Abstract

This work reports the effect of extraction solvents on extraction yield, total phenolic and total flavonoid contents of different part (branch, bark, and leaves) of Actinodaphne glomerata as well as its free radical scavenging potential. Extraction was done by successive maceration in n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol. The total phenolic content was determined colorimetrically using the FolinCiocalteu method. The total flavonoid content was determined by the aluminium chloride colorimetric method.Antioxidant activity was measured by DPPH free radical scavenging method. The samples showed increase in antioxidant property with the increase in the concentration indicating that they have increased antioxidant property. The leaves extract from ethanol solvent showed higher antioxidant activity.
