Abstract

Mahakam River is a river that divides the city of Samarinda. Aside from being a source of drinking water for the majority of the population of Samarinda City, it also serves as a water channel for various activities, such as coal mobilization and the output of most small industrial waste. Therefore routine water quality checks are very important. Examination of the chemical nature of water in the form of heavy metals, especially heavy metals chromium that can reduce water quality and decrease the carrying capacity of aquatic ecosystems and the fulfillment of raw water for drinking in accordance with health standards. The purpose of this study was to determine the contamination content of heavy metal chromium hexavalent in Mahakam River water area of ??Samarinda City. Secondary data in the form of data of Cr6+ heavy metal content obtained from Regional Water Company (PDAM) of Samarinda City. PDAM Samarinda conducts water sampling on 9 intakes as follows: (1) Cendana, (2) Selili, (3) Tirta Kencana, (4) Samarinda Seberang, (5) Gunung Lipan, (6) Pulau Atas, (7) Bendang, (8) Loa Bakung, and (9) Palaran. Water samples were tested at the Samarinda PDAM Master Laboratory. The data obtained is processed descriptively qualitative and compared with the standard of water quality standard based on PP RI. 82 of 2011, Provincial Regulation of East Kalimantan No.02 of 2011, and Kepmenkes. 97 of 2002. The results show that the Mahakam River of Samarinda City contains hexavalent chromium heavy metal above the standard quality standard with a content range of 0.064 mg / l to 0.219 mg / l with an average of 0.124 mg / l by 2013 and chromium content ranges Between 0.068 mg / l to 0.175 mg / l with an average of 0.095 mg / l in 2014
