Abstract

The high population growth of community in various places has caused the pressure on the land. The research objective is to examine the availability and agricultural land needs, then to arrange land capability classes as strategic in managing land resources. The method in determining land availability is based on the actual total local-production information for each commodity in the region, by calculating the total products of all commodities, the classification of land-capability class uses quantitative analysis of weight calculations based on limiting factors. The results showed the potential of soil types of eutropepts and tropudults is for development of dryland agriculture, while tropohemist is for development of paddy fields. The availability of land in Santan and Marangkayu watershed is less than the requirement. This condition has resulted in deficit fulfillment, because the population is not proportional with the available land. The Spatial Plan of Santan and Marangkayu Watershed region is not in accordance with the extent of land, where the cultivation area is classified into class VI and VII with limitation on slope and erosion factors. Shrubs are potential land to developed for dryland agriculture. In the RTRW arrangement, the cultivation area should be referred to the type of land.
